“Imagining the Familiar” is a collection of images that utilize layering and compositing. Each work has elements that we can recognize, but are combined together to create new and imaginary spaces. Zachary Pinson and Andrea Lynn Santos’ paintings are reminiscent of a familiar world turned into chaos. They inhabit a reality that has become too far gone to make rational sense of. Bruce Kahn’s work has a certain humor; his collage-like photographs seem to make light of the fact that we might not know what will come next. David Drew Longey creates entrancing images from layers of color and shape. We search for something familiar within the pieces these artists place together. Each piece offers a glimpse into a dimension that a realistically represented work cannot always offer. The viewer is lead to a place somewhere between imagination and reality.
