Join Emuna the Bellydancing Librarian for a free introduction to the art of Middle Eastern Dance. No dance experience necessary!
This class will be geared to adults and young adults ages 12 and up; 8 and up are welcome with a parent participating.
Middle Eastern Dance has its roots in various ancient cultures of the Arabian Peninsula, where it is called Oriental Dance. It spans a range from folkloric dances practiced by families at festive occasions, to mesmerizing performance art known throughout the world. It's also a fun way to express your creativity through movement and music.
Belly Dance is a non-impact, weight-bearing exercise and is thus suitable for all ages. Many of the moves involve isolations, which improves flexibility of the torso and strengthens the spinal and abdominal muscles in a gentle way.
Emuna is a dancer, teacher and choreographer based in western Massachusetts. Since 1994 she has been a member of The Crescent Dancers, the Pioneer Valley’s premier Middle Eastern dance troupe. She began her dance studies at age 5 and has been studying, performing and teaching Middle Eastern Dance for 20 years.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move and stretch. Bare feet or ballet slippers are recommended. You do not need to bare your belly.
