Gestural Photography by A. P. Grant
In 2007, I discovered that I could use my digital camera as a tool to manipulate the colors, textures, and lines of a scene by gesturing with the camera as I snapped the picture. With this method, which I call Gestural Photography. Motioning with the camera feels like painting with pixels and the initial photographs are like early sketches. On the in-camera display I review a picture, and take another and another based on what emerges. I repeat this process as long as needed to tease out features that catch my eye, seeking the essence of the subject and moment.
The resulting motion effects are made in the field, not by computer. Beyond a photographic method, it is the raw discovery that thrills me most about Gestural Photography.
