Artist Statement/Bio

I sign my works as DShanti. I've been creating cloth and Art dolls. As for two dimensional works, I blend reality with the abstract in ink or mixed media. My new series of paintings, Women in Hats, was inspired by my friend's beautiful, bouncy black hat. Now, whenever I see a woman wearing a hat, I feel compelled to sketch her (or take a photo).

I am a member of the Easthampton Cultural Council. I work at Hampshire College in the IT department.
