Artist Statement/Bio
Pragya Jain is one of the promising young artists of today. A graduate of the Delhi College of Art, New Delhi, Pragya’s art works were commended and appreciated even during her student days. The current showing is Pragya’s first solo exhibition in India. Her choice of Bangalore as the place to hold an exclusive showing of her art is due to the vibrant art scene in the city. Aware of the ever expanding number of connoisseurs of Indian contemporary art in the city, Pragya made a conscious choice of holding her first solo showing in Bangalore.

Currently a resident of Springfield, Pragya has continued with her art interest even abroad and has begun to make positive inroads into the contemporary art scene there. Besides organizing the display and exhibition of works at her own studio premises there, she has also exhibited some of her art at galleries in the city. Being a trained graphic artist, Pragya is a natural at portraiture and has received scores of orders from individuals both in India and abroad, to do commissioned portraits for clients. These works have been much appreciated and have led to a wide network of contacts among art lovers in both places.

Besides her own art progress, Pragya have proved to be a compassionate artist as well She is a volunteer at a charity organization, that feeds homeless people and also provides them a space to learn and do art. Pragya has been involved in teaching these inmates about the basics of art making and then helped them to showcase their works. The proceeds from the sales have given back a sense of purpose to the hapless and they have immense gratitude for volunteer Pragya for her selfless devotion to their cause. Needless to add, the works tutored by Pragya have fetched promising returns at these sales.

A creative and thinking artist par excellence, Pragya made a flying start into art with her maiden art showing at the Polka Art Gallery, New Delhi, India. Her works were handpicked to be exhibited with Indian masters like Niren Sengupta, OP Sharma and others of that ilk. At a later showing at Art Mall, New Delhi, Pragya made her acquaintance with her first art collector, Sangita Jindal, whose discerning eye spotted the potential and promise her works held. Today, her works are in the homes and offices of major collectors all over the country.

The pristine lines of determined geometry that adorn her canvases are favoured by viewers for their clean contours. Her colour palette ranges from sharp black and white contrasts to a fine merger of contiguous blends. The imposition of a ballerina in motion on the surface suggests a mood of well-being, harmony and lyricism. Fascinated by the drama of opposites attracted towards each other, Pragya reveals an entirely different personality in other works, where the squared segments box in her ideas into compartmented cellular arrangements, suggesting a narrative born of questioning, statements on current trends, and the need to focus on issues in a systematic manner.

The growth pattern in her art is visible through a striving to explore. They reveal her findings through colours, design, evocative imagery being integrated into a vision of grace, spirituality and happiness.

Hi Pragya,
I really like your abstract silhouettes. I work with silhouettes as well, usually burned into wood using a magnifying glass or wood burning tool. I hope your work could make it to a more local gallery, would love to see it all.......Wayne
